Telecel Press Statement on Licence Cancellation

 

Telecel Zimbabwe has been notified by the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) of the cancellation of its licence to provide national cellular telecommunications services.

This measure is unfair and unwarranted. Telecel has made every effort to comply with all legal and governmental requirements in Zimbabwe, and objects to this treatment in the strongest terms.

Telecel and its global shareholders are taking immediate action both locally and internationally to challenge this decision.

Telecel would like to assure its customers and stakeholders that it will take all possible steps to maintain the full range of its services throughout this process.

We thank all our valued customers and partners for their on-going support. Your welfare is of the utmost importance and priority to us and we will continue to act in the interests of Zimbabwe and its people.

Telecel promotion re-introduces bonus calls to all other local networks

Telecel Zimbabwe has re-introduced 100% off-net bonus on their Mega Bonus promotion which allows pre-paid subscribers to make calls for double the value of the airtime they purchase, regardless of who they are calling, as long as the call is a local call.

The Mega Bonus Promotion gives Telecel customers 100% bonus for all airtime denominations. The validity period for the bonus airtime varies depending on the recharge value but goes up to ten days.

Telecel introduces number matching

Telecel Zimbabwe has announced a number matching initiative under their new Switch Over campaign, the number matching campaign allows subscribers on other networks to retain the last six digits of their mobile numbers if they decide to move over to Telecel.

“We have introduced the number matching initiative to make it convenient for subscribers from other networks who wish move to Telecel to retain their last six digits from their current line when they join us,” said Telecel Head of Marketing, Clever Isaya.

Telecel launches PIN-less recharging platform

Telecel Zimbabwe has announced the launch of a PIN-less electronic airtime recharge platform dubbed e-Juice which enables subscribers to recharge their mobiles phones without using airtime scratch cards or recharge vouchers.

E-Juice allows subscribers to get airtime directly loaded onto their mobile phones without having to purchase physical scratch cards or vouchers which come with recharge PIN numbers. This new recharge platform has the advantage of making recharging faster and more convenient for subscribers.

Telecel announces mobile insurance launch

Telecoms operator, Telecel Zimbabwe, is partnering with local insurance company, Zimnat Lion, to roll out a mobile insurance product that offers Telecel subscribers Funeral, Hospital and local and international Travel Cover through their Telecel lines. The new service, called Telecare, offers an affordable and convenient package to cover most basic needs.

Telecare insurance will bring safe, secure and affordable mobile insurance the company has said. Head of Marketing, Clever Isaya, said the initiative was unique in the market as Telecare provides 3 different insurance plans under one service.

Telecel Launches telecash mobile App

The country’s second largest mobile network by subscribers, Telecel, has announced the launch of a telecash Android application which is already available on Google’s Play Store, the application makes it easier and faster for telecash users to transact.

The telecash app which can be downloaded for free from Google’s Play Store, allows telecash subscribers to carry out various transactions like bill payments, purchases, locating agents in an area, cashing out, sending money and making balance inquiries.

Telecel has announced the long-awaited return of the popular Mega Juice promotion which gives 100% Telecel-to-Telecel call bonus to subscribers whenever they load a $1 or more worth of airtime on their pre-paid Telecel Go line.

The Mega Juice promotion which was first introduced in early 2010 was a huge commercial success for the mobile network company and was first introduced on the now defunct trademark red $1 Mega Juice scratch card.

Telecel announces new SMS based competition

Telecel, Zimbabwe’s second largest mobile network, has launched a new promotion dubbed SMS Bonanza that will give subscribers a chance to win $70,000 worth of prizes over a three month period by participating in an SMS based question and answer competition. This is a variation of the very popular Go to Brazil promo which ended in August.

To participate and stand a chance to win some of the cash prizes, subscribers simply send a blank SMS to 33566 and they will receive three questions via SMS after opting into the competition. Winning is based on chance and the more one plays the better their chances. Subscribers can continue to request more questions to increase their chances of winning by simply sending the word “more” to the same number.

Telecel Go removes boundaries, reduces cost of calls to all networks

Telecel has launched a new pre-paid service platform called Telecel Go, which removes the boundaries between networks and reduces the cost of calls across all networks significantly below the regulatory standard charge.

There is a choice of two plans. Telecel Go Juic’r, which provides a standard low rate of 15 cents per minute to all networks no matter when you call, and Telecel Go Flexi, which has per minute charges of 19 cents, 11 cents and 9 cents to all networks, depending on whether you make your call during the day or at night.
